1In one sentence
Here are ten prompts to paste today, one for each everyday need, so that you feel what Midjourney can do before you learn the rules behind it.
2New words
- Parameter — a short code at the end of a prompt, starting with two dashes, that sets a setting: --ar 16:9 means "wide picture". Chapter 1.6 explains them all.
- Aspect ratio — the shape of the picture: 1:1 is square, 16:9 is wide like a TV, 9:16 is tall like a phone screen, 4:5 is the Instagram portrait shape.
- Mock-up — a picture of how something could look, not the final thing. A logo "mock-up" is an idea, not a logo file you can print.
3Why you would want it
Most beginners type one word ("logo"), get four odd pictures and give up. These prompts are written the way Midjourney likes: a clear subject, a setting, a style, a light, a shape. Paste them exactly, then change the parts in [brackets] to your own business.
| # | Need | Type this |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Logo idea | minimal logo for a bakery called "Sam's Bakery", a wheat ear inside a circle, flat vector style, two colors, white background --ar 1:1 --s 50 --raw |
| 2 | Product photo | a sourdough loaf on a wooden board, studio product photography, soft window light, shallow depth of field, neutral background --ar 4:5 |
| 3 | Social post | overhead flat lay of croissants, coffee cup and a linen napkin on a marble table, bright morning light, warm and inviting --ar 4:5 |
| 4 | Portrait | portrait of a smiling baker in her 40s, flour on her apron, standing in a small bakery, natural light, 85mm lens, candid --ar 4:5 |
| 5 | Room design | interior of a small modern bakery cafe, light oak counter, white tiles, hanging plants, morning sun through large windows, photorealistic --ar 16:9 |
| 6 | Poster | poster for a weekend bakery sale, big fresh bread loaves, bold retro 1960s advertising style, limited color palette, empty space at the top for text --ar 2:3 |
| 7 | Pattern | seamless pattern of hand-drawn croissants, baguettes and wheat, cream background, soft pastel colors --tile |
| 8 | Icon | simple app icon of a cupcake, rounded square, flat design, pastel pink, no text --ar 1:1 --s 30 --raw |
| 9 | Landscape | golden wheat field at sunrise, low mist, rolling hills, wide landscape photograph, calm mood --ar 16:9 |
| 10 | Food shot | close-up of a slice of chocolate cake on a white plate, fork beside it, dark moody food photography, dramatic side light --ar 4:5 |
4Try it now
- Open the Create page. Paste prompt 2 into the Imagine bar and press Enter.
- While it works, paste prompt 7 and prompt 9. The website lets you queue several.
- Click one finished picture to open it big. Click Download (the arrow icon) to save it.
- Do prompt 1 and prompt 6 last and look at the text: Midjourney often spells words wrong. That is normal; Chapter 1.12 says what to do.
5What you will see
Each prompt gives a grid of four pictures that are all different takes on the same idea; the website shows them appearing as it draws them.

Notice that the four are not copies: they are four proposals, and you pick.
6Watch out
- Every grid uses GPU time. Four prompts in Fast mode on a Basic plan is a few minutes gone. Use Relax or Draft while playing.
- The logo and icon prompts give ideas, not usable logo files. A designer still needs to redraw a logo as a vector; Midjourney only makes pixel pictures.
7Go further
Change the subject of prompt 3 to something from your own shop, keep everything else, and compare. Then read Chapter 1.5 to learn why these prompts are built the way they are.
